PSIA Hosts Seedsmen’s Training on New Trends in Seed Technology

The Philippine Seed Industry Association (PSIA) successfully held its Seedsmen’s Training on September 18, 2025, at the Multi-purpose Hall, Obdulia F. Sison Hall, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). With the theme “New Trends in Seed Technology,” the training brought together industry experts, researchers, and seed company representatives to strengthen knowledge-sharing and technical skills in the seed sector.


The one-day program featured presentations from respected academics and professionals in the field. Asst. Prof. Stephen E. Timple opened with an overview of recent advances and trends in seed technology, while Assoc. Prof. Leah E. Endonela discussed natural seed treatments. In the afternoon, Assoc. Prof. Renerio P. Gentallan Jr. led a session on hyperspectral imaging for seed quality inspection, followed by Asst. Prof. Nadine B. Coronado who presented on modeling seed longevity.



More than 30 participants joined the training, representing both private and public institutions, including Chia Tai, Leads Agri, National Seed Foundation, Institute of Plant Breeding, Ramgo International Corporation, RM Advance, Allied Botanical Corporation, Harbest Agribusiness Corporation, Enviro Scope Synergy Inc., East-West Seed Philippines, SeedWorks, DA-PhilRice, Pilipinas Kaneko Seeds Corporation, Yobee Seeds, and Seedlink.


Through this initiative, PSIA continues its mission of supporting capacity-building in the seed industry and empowering members with the latest innovations that can benefit Filipino farmers.
